LG 16X BD-RW MDISC RETAIL BOX

I purchased this drive with one aim in mind: To Archive my valuable data (family documents, photos and original work) on a reliable media, specifically Blu-Ray M-DISC technology. This is a big deal, since SDD/HDD technology currently existing has a half life of about 5-10 years. M-Disc media is perhaps the only way to keep your valuable data for decades (if not centuries).OK so after browsing the LG website for several days and deciding on this device, i decided to purchase it. On arrival all looked okay, package was neat and clean, SATA adaptor etc was fine. The Cybelink Media suite came included. Installation went well, but the Power2GO tool would NOT recognize the BD capabilities of this drive. SO after contacting LG and speaking to several disoriented tech support "experts", the consensus was that this device does NOT burn Blu Ray M-discs. WTF ?? Really?? What is then the large M-disco logo for ?? The answer was, that the drive is compatible with M-disc DVDs. Noooo way i have Terabytes of data, i do not have time in this life or the next to burn 1000 DVDs.. I want to get my data in 50-100GB Blu rays period !.OK, so here is where my review will help you. I did this: 1. I got the ADDONICS external enclosure that has a SATA port to connect to an external SATA cable (which you must set up in your PC first). This is if you want the drive to be outside your PC. If you want it inside, then skip that and go to -> 2. I then purchased the ASUS BW-16D1HT equivalent of the LG WH / BH drives. This drive does what the box says, it burns Blu Rays in M-disc and regular format, it does burn at 4X speed and it does contain the same Power2Go Cyberlink software with the Complete version to do the job. !!! I forgot to mention that the LG drives only have a version that requires an upgrade that costs 39-69 $$$. F.. this, why why why ????OK, so now, i am a happy man with my Blu Ray Burner, M-disc proven to work, with the right software and for the right price. The LG drive is $114, vs. the ASUS drive which cost me $54 !!!. I actually contacted LG and asked to have their engineering department call me, gave them my cell phone and so far 1 week later there is only silence... no way i will ever buy an LG drive ever again..
